The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet Book Review
The culture and character building in The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet is phenomenal! Every crew member has a chance to share their past and what has influenced them to stay aboard the Wayfarer. It’s like there is a character study for every single member of the crew, but it all blends so perfectly with the storyline. There is never a dull moment, and the creativity behind each character is mind-blowing.
There is also quite a mix of personalities aboard the ship, but everyone has their place on the crew and they have created a dynamic of found family. Being the newest crew member, Rosemary joins to take herself away from her home and family. What she never expects is to find deep connections and friendships among them. And she will learn that even though her family back home might be unhealthy, the crew of the Wayfarer does not hesitate to accept her as family.
Rosemary’s perspective is such an interesting one to follow. She recognizes the biases she carries. When learning about the different cultures she finds herself immersed in, she does her best to approach everything with an open mind. She even calls herself out on some inner thoughts and works toward tearing down the walls of bias. Rosemary is not perfect, but seeing the effort she puts into understanding others perspectives and ways was refreshing.
The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet has so much going for it. It will hit all the different emotions for readers. Laughter and tears will go hand in hand with the storytelling. If you are a reader who wants to try out sci-fi and enjoys found family themes, pick this book up. The antics of characters and the twists thrown into the mix will surely keep you entertained. I cannot wait to dive into book two and see where else the crew travels to and what trouble they get into.
