The Long Forgotten Winter King Book Review

In The Long Forgotten Winter King, Saber discovers quite a few buried secrets when she decides to search for answers surrounding her parent’s deaths. Venturing into lethal fae territory despite Ríkr's warning, she’ll find much more than she bargained for. And while Zak is along for the ride, even his powers will be pushed to their limits.

This is the book I was waiting for. Saber is discovering more of who she is, and beginning to process her past. Her dissociative order has blocked so many memories, but through her determination to find out what happened to her parents, she’ll have no choice but to unlock some. Saber still throws up guards and has issues dealing with emotions, but she’s taking those first few tentative steps.

The tension between Zak and Saber is written much better in this novel. There is plenty of interaction between the two, and emotional clashing. Zak himself is undergoing quite the character development as he searches for a new purpose in his life. But they are both still morally grey characters and have no issues going over the line to survive.

There is loads of druid magic and world-building around the magical class. Not to mention fae battles and gut-wrenching scenes. Annette Marie knows just how to stir up the reader’s emotions and connect them to the characters. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next novel.
