Sunbringer Book Review

The relationship between Inara and Skediceth is so heartbreaking. After grieving the loss of her mother in Godkiller, Inara found a rough but secure place alongside Kissen and Elogast. But now after the events of book one, she is dealing with grief and the feeling of being unwanted and inadequate. Inara is so lost in her grief that she begins to misunderstand the good intentions of those around her, and begins to push everyone away.

Skediceth is eager to learn of his past and why he is connected to Inara. And while the little god is beginning to grow in power, he will forever consider Inara his home. But how can a god of white lies ensure Inara believes him when he tells her the truth about how he feels? Temptation lies in the back of Skediceth’s mind, one that serves to fray the bonds of love and friendship between him and Inara.

Sunbringer is full of raw emotions and characters dealing with deep-seated loss and changing relationships due to grief. Each of the main characters is affected in separate ways and acts out with self-destructive tendencies. Yet at the same time try to help those around them from making poor decisions.

And woven into this tapestry are old gods and new, struggling to survive in the current world. Calling on humans they would never have associated with to ally themselves and fight against the ideology of one single god overtaking the world in fire and destruction. The Fallen Gods series is an intense look at how power can corrupt and the cruelties of those when driven by that power. Sunbringer was a fanatic sequel and I cannot wait for book three.
