Blurb for Oksy, Come Home

She came to make a difference, if only they'd let her...

Sniper Oksy hasn't found her place in the army yet. She knows she's good – maybe even the best – but Command won't even give her a gun.

In fact, they mostly want to blame her for everything that goes wrong.

After the latest disaster behind enemy lines, she's being reassigned to the harrowing trenches, under the threat of ogres, mages and tentacles. How can she convince them to let her fight? How can she prove she belongs here – and not in the miserable home she left behind?

Return to the thrilling, chilling world of the One War with this prequel novella, set before Oksy joined the Blood Scouts.

Oksy, Come Home Book Review

The writing in Oksy, Comes Home paints the picture of sexism and bias towards female soldiers. Despite all Oksy does to be an effective team member, the men in her regiment do not listen to her. And when missions go sideways, she is the immediate one to blame even if she argued against her male counterparts' actions that sparked complications.

Oksy is determined not to be looked down upon and judged for being female. However, she has a quieter personality on the outside. Yet even though she may appear meek, putting a sniper rifle in her hands will guarantee the target will see its last days. This shows that a person should not be judged based on appearance alone, even though it happens all too often.

The tension in this novella is so well written. As Oksy lies in the trenches with her team a sense of dread will pull the reader as their situation continues to worsen. Quick bursts of devastating action will spike the adrenaline and wonder what will come next. Coupled with this is Oksy’s past being revealed to the reader through letters from her mother, showing the life Oksy left behind. The combination will have readers reeling and urging Oksy to be able to unleash her full potential.

While this serves as a prequel novella for The Blood Scouts series, Oksy, Come Home is a wonderful standalone as well. If anything, reading this novella will encourage readers to seek out more information on The Blood Scouts and what challenges they face during the war. I would recommend this for fans of dark military fantasy.
