Oathbound Book Review
While Bree may have known dealing with demons was risky, she never could have imagined what she would have to lose in her bargain with the Shadow King. Determined to become an unstoppable force, Bree will risk everything to gain power and control. Meanwhile, Natasia battles to save her son from Demonia, Mariah searches for Bree, and Nick embarks on a quest alongside Will to find the very thing Bree’s Shadow King desires.
The audio narration for the Legendborn Cycle is absolutely the best I have heard. This time around there are new narrators brought in as readers will be able to see through multiple character points of view. Having started the series with Joniece Abbott-Pratt as the voice of Bree I had high expectations. Joniece adds a depth of emotion to Bree’s character that ties everything together. And the new audio narrators did not disappoint. They did just as good a job bringing characters like Will and Natasia to life.
Oathbound is a character focused narrative and explores the world of the demons more closely as the characters become more involved with it. In the prior two books, demons were seen through the lens of the Legendborn, and while not everything they believed was a lie, there were some truths they refused to admit. Readers will be absorbed into the dark world of the demons and see how deeply corruption runs in the Legendborn.
Tracy Deonn is a master at bringing out the emotion in her characters and readers. Bree’s love for others and their returned love is powerful. Whether it be found family, friendship, or romantic love, there is no attention to detail left behind. It is clear that Bree is important to her companions not for her power, but because of who she is and the bonds she has created. Bree has gained such a wonderful found family, and to see her on the verge of losing it all is heartbreaking.
Oathbound is another fantastic addition to the Legendborn Cycle. Right up until the end Tracy Deonn will have readers eager to see what happens next, and will leave them demanding the next book. There are so many questions left unanswered, and the anticipation for book four will be intense.
