Hellbound Guilds & Other Misdirections Book Review
Kit’s abilities are a wonderful tease in this series. Seeing him creatively think on his feet with a psychic ability adds a great mix of tension. And despite being proclaimed as a powerful mythic, Kit has a load of challenges he has to overcome. There are definite downfalls to a psychic ability, but Kit has been a survivor for a long time. And when he comes toe to toe with his first batch of demon summoners, he’s going to learn the hard way what works and what doesn’t work against them.
There are moments in Hellbound Guilds & Other Misdirections where Kit finds himself in trouble that should take a while to figure out, yet the solutions appear rather quickly. If the reader had been given time to worry alongside Kit it would have added to the story. That being said, Kit is trying to adjust to life as an agent and working within the laws of the MPD. There is plenty of action and dramatic tension to play off of this to satisfy the reader.
One thing to note is that despite how much the audiobook adds to the experience, certain magical words are pronounced differently from the first two series of books. Granted, Kit isn’t as in tune with the magical world, but he isn’t the only character using different pronunciations. It throws the reader a bit.
Hellbound Guilds & Other Misdirections continues to worldbuild within the Guild Codex series and grants readers new insights into the mythical world. Viewing past characters and guilds through Kit’s eyes is refreshing and at times surprising. The romance is still hanging in the background but still very obvious in this side series. Fans of urban fantasy and romance will enjoy it.
