Blurb for Eagles Fall
Light has triumphed, the great war is won.
Yet shadows linger in the darkness, and in the hidden corners of men’s hearts.
Granted the ability to wield Zur’s Light, Gallion’s Eagles are a symbol of justice. People can look to the skies and know they are protected. But without a common enemy, resentment has begun to fester.
With civil war looming, Ward finds himself caught between warring factions. Unwilling to choose between love and duty, will Ward be able to stop things before they go too far? Or will his world come crashing down in a clash of tooth and talon?
Serving as a prequel to L. R. Schulz’s Bonds of Kin series, Eagles Fall serves as an introduction to Zapour. This standalone story portrays the events that lead to the structure of the world in A King’s Radiance, and can be read either before or after the main series, with some nice little easter eggs for returning readers.
Eagles Fall Book Review
Eagles Fall is a prequel to the Bonds of Kin series, yet it does a fantastic job standing on its own. The story opens immediately with a hunt for a shadow-beast. As Ward and Breone work together, readers are shown the reason for the Eagles of Zapour and Mystic Order to form an alliance. Yet despite the need for this alliance, there is a strain between the factions.
While the Eagles possess the power of Shine, Mystics are able to manipulate the mind. Their greater enemy the Skae have all but been wiped out. And while shadow-beasts still roam the land, the times of great war are over. The corruption of power is evident as the Eagles begin picking apart all the Mystics do, and begin to rise against the teachings that have kept both sides in line. And while the Mystics maintain that the teachings stand, the Eagles have the strength and king backing them.
As readers witness the ever growing tensions rise between the two factions, Ward and Breone are caught among them. A forbidden love resides in their hearts, and outside forces would use that to twist the Eagles into action. All it will take is a single misguided act for the flames of war to be lit. Plunging all the two characters know into chaos and heartbreak.
L.R. Schulz has created a well paced story that will immediately hook readers. From well written underlying political tension to soaring epic battles, readers of fantasy need to check this one out. With the novella being so engaging, the series is sure to be just as good.
