Blood on the Raven Book Review

Thank you to Michelle Winkler for providing me with a copy of this book! I voluntarily leave this review!

After suffering the loss of people close to her, Jade is angry and grieving. As the high priestess, it is her job to lead the coven, but her emotions interfere with her choices and magic. Not only is a dark witch now threatening the coven, but an inspector from Sun City has come to investigate Sugar Hill. Jade must balance between her inner turmoil and the outside threats to her coven. But will she break in the process?

Jade is filled with so much anger and grief. Each time she is reminded of who she lost, it is like a fresh wound has been inflicted on her. Jade has a wonderful support group with the coven, but in her grief, Jade doubts their advice. To see her so tortured in her thoughts and feelings is a devastating reminder of how deeply grief can affect someone.

And the dark witch Raven knows just how to taunt and pick at Jade. Each clash of their magic is a stark reminder of the darkness Jade must face with her coven. The battle with Raven and dark magic is a reflection of how a person can give in to grief and sorrow, letting it lead them into a path of self-destruction.

Amidst all the emotional and magical struggles Jade and the coven must endure, they also have an inspector from Sun City ready and willing to record all he sees. Armed with drones that can broadcast live to the citizens of Sun City, tensions run high. Citizens and witches have a violent history and a tenuous truce. With an ongoing investigation into Sugar Hill, if the wrong thing is broadcasted, it will cause irreparable damage.

There are so many moving pieces in Blood on the Raven. One challenge after another will be thrown into Jade’s path. There will be unexpected twists and devastating betrayal. Readers will have a constant stream of emotionally charged tension to keep them engaged. With how this book ends, I cannot wait to see what else is in store for Jade and the coven in book three.
